It turns your everyday receipts into actionable knowledge about your shopping habits.
Is KassenBonBon free to use?
KassenBonBon offers a generous Free plan that includes up to 30 receipt uploads per month, basic analytics, AI-powered product categorization, budget tracking, and barcode scanning. For power users, our Pro plan (€3.99/month or €39/year) unlocks unlimited uploads, advanced analytics, nutrition tracking, anomaly detection, basket analysis, weekly AI reports, and more. No credit card required to get started.
How do I get started?
It's as simple as 1-2-3: Create a free account, upload your first receipt (PDF or photo), and within seconds you'll see your purchases categorized and analyzed. Your personal dashboard builds up automatically with every receipt you add — complete with spending trends, budget tracking, price alerts, and AI insights.
Which stores are supported?
KassenBonBon supports receipts from all major German retailers including REWE, Lidl, Aldi, EDEKA, Kaufland, and more. Our intelligent parser automatically detects the store and adapts its processing. Even receipts from unknown stores are handled by our generic parser.

Uploading Receipts

How do I upload a receipt?
Go to the Upload page in your dashboard, then simply drag & drop your receipt file or click to select one. You can upload PDF receipts from online shopping, or snap a photo of your paper receipt with your phone (PNG, JPG). Multiple files can be uploaded at once — batch processing makes it quick and easy.
Can I upload photos of paper receipts?
Absolutely! Just take a photo of your receipt with your smartphone and upload the image. Our advanced OCR system powered by Google Cloud Vision automatically extracts all products, prices, and details — even from crumpled or tilted receipts. The processing takes just a few seconds.
How fast is the receipt processing?
Very fast! PDF receipts are processed almost instantly (under 1 second). Photo receipts are processed via Google Cloud Vision in just 1-2 seconds. You'll see a live preview of the extracted data before confirming the import.
What happens if a receipt can't be read?
Our system shows you a preview of the extracted data before importing, so you can verify everything looks correct. If OCR quality is low, we automatically switch to our most accurate recognition engine. In rare cases where text can't be extracted, you'll see a clear error message.
Are duplicate receipts detected?
Yes! KassenBonBon has a 4-layer duplicate detection system: file hash matching, business logic comparison (date + store + total), fuzzy matching, and confidence scoring. You'll be warned before accidentally importing the same receipt twice, and you can compare them side by side.
What file formats are supported?
We support PDF files (from online retailers like REWE) and image files (PNG, JPG, JPEG) from phone photos. Files up to 10MB are accepted, and you can upload multiple files at once.
Can I email receipts instead of uploading?
Yes! Simply forward your receipt emails to bon@kassenbonbon.app or bons@kassenbonbon.app. The receipt will be automatically imported within about 5 seconds. Perfect for quickly adding receipts directly from your inbox!
Which email addresses can I use?
You can forward receipts to either bon@kassenbonbon.app or bons@kassenbonbon.app. Both addresses work the same way. Only PDF and image attachments are processed — the system automatically filters and imports your receipts.
How long does email import take?
Very fast! Once you forward your receipt email, it's processed within about 5 seconds. You'll see it appear in your dashboard automatically — with the same duplicate detection and quality processing as manual uploads.
Can I delete purchases I no longer need?
Yes! You can delete individual items from a purchase, delete an entire purchase, or batch-select and delete multiple purchases at once. All deletions include an undo option via a toast notification, so you can restore accidentally deleted data within a few seconds.

Dashboard & Budget

What does the dashboard show?
Your dashboard is the command center for your shopping data. It features a Spending Pulse hero showing this month's total with month-over-month trends, interactive spending and category charts, recent purchases, price change alerts, and quick-access links to all features.
How does budget tracking work?
Go to Settings and set your monthly budget amount. The dashboard will then show a color-coded progress bar — green when you're within budget, amber when approaching the limit, and red when over. You'll see exactly how much you've spent and how much remains.
What are price alerts?
The dashboard automatically tracks price changes for your frequently purchased items. When a product's price changes by 5% or more, it appears in the Price Alerts section with the old price, new price, and percentage change — so you always know about significant price movements.
Can I filter charts by time period?
Yes! The dashboard has period selector buttons (1 Month, 3 Months, 6 Months, 1 Year, All) that filter both the spending trend chart and category breakdown. This lets you zoom in on recent patterns or see your long-term trends.
What are the score gauges on the dashboard?
The dashboard shows four at-a-glance scores: Health Score (ratio of healthy to treat items), Variety Score (diversity of products and categories), Budget Adherence (current spending vs your historical average), and Freshness Index (fresh vs processed products). Each includes a trend indicator so you can see if you're improving.

What analytics does KassenBonBon provide?
You get a comprehensive overview organized in four themed sections: AI-Powered Features (health insights, recipes, substitutions, meal plan), Spending & Budget (budget forecast, savings tracking, anomaly detection), Shopping Patterns (basket analysis, behavior analysis, brand analytics, nutrition), and Reports (weekly AI summary). Plus a full product catalog with search and filtering.
How are products categorized?
Products are automatically categorized using our AI-powered categorization system (powered by Google Gemini). It recognizes 11+ categories including Fruits & Vegetables, Dairy, Meat & Fish, Beverages, Bakery, Household, Snacks, Frozen Foods, Canned Goods, Ready Meals, and more. The system learns and improves with each receipt.
Can I see my spending over time?
Yes! The dashboard shows you interactive charts with your spending trends — weekly, monthly, or custom date ranges. You can instantly see whether you're spending more or less than usual and identify patterns in your shopping behavior.
Can I export my data?
Yes! You can export your purchase data as CSV from the purchases page or the product catalog. PDF reports are available for spending breakdowns, category analysis, health insights, and more. You can also download a full JSON export of all your data from the Settings page (GDPR data portability).
What is anomaly detection?
Anomaly detection automatically flags unusual patterns in your shopping: unexpectedly high or low spending, unusually large or small baskets, significant price spikes or drops, and unusual purchase frequency. Each anomaly shows severity (high/medium/low), the expected vs actual value, and how much it deviates from your normal pattern.
Are there weekly reports?
Yes! The Weekly Reports feature generates an AI-powered summary of your past week — total spending, daily averages, category breakdowns, and personalized insights. You can regenerate the report at any time to get the latest analysis.
Can I browse all my products?
Yes! The Product Catalog lets you search, filter by category, and browse all products you've ever purchased. Each product shows its category, how often you've bought it, and when you last purchased it. You can also export the full catalog as CSV.
What is Behavior Analysis?
Behavior Analysis examines your shopping patterns over time — when you shop, how often, basket sizes, store preferences, and day-of-week trends. It helps you understand your habits and discover opportunities to optimize your shopping routine.
What is Brand Analytics?
Brand Analytics shows which brands you buy most frequently and how much you spend on each. See your brand loyalty patterns, compare house brands vs premium brands, and discover how your preferences evolve over time.
What is Savings Analysis?
Savings Analysis (Pro) tracks your shopping savings and identifies products where you find good deals. It highlights opportunities to save more by comparing your spending patterns against price baselines.
How is the Analytics page organized?
The Analytics hub is organized into four themed sections: AI-Powered Features (health, recipes, substitutions, meal plan), Spending & Budget (budget forecast, savings, anomalies), Shopping Patterns (basket, behavior, brands, nutrition), and Reports (weekly AI summary). Each section has a clear header so you can quickly find what you need.

Barcode Scanner & Nutrition

What is the barcode scanner?
The barcode scanner lets you scan product barcodes using your device's camera or enter EAN codes manually. It looks up detailed product information including name, brand, Nutri-Score, Eco-Score, full nutrition facts per 100g, and allergen data — all from the Open Food Facts database.
How do I use the barcode scanner?
Open the Scanner page from your dashboard. Point your camera at a product barcode and it will be detected automatically. Alternatively, switch to manual entry mode and type the EAN number. The product details will appear instantly.
Can I link scanned products to my purchases?
Yes! After scanning a product, you can link it to an existing purchase item. This enriches your shopping data with nutrition information, enabling detailed Nutri-Score analysis and nutrient breakdowns on the Nutrition Analysis page.
What is the Nutrition Analysis page?
The Nutrition Analysis page aggregates nutrition data from all your scanned products. It shows the Nutri-Score distribution (A through E) across your purchases, average nutrient breakdown (fat, carbs, protein, salt, fiber) per 100g, average calories in kcal, and lists of your most nutritious and most caloric products.
Do I need to scan every product?
No — scanning is optional and adds extra nutrition detail. The more products you scan, the more complete your nutrition analysis becomes. The Nutrition page shows your current coverage percentage so you can track your progress.

What AI features are available?
KassenBonBon uses Google Gemini AI to power a full suite of smart features: personalized health & nutrition recommendations, recipe suggestions based on what you buy, product substitution recommendations (healthier/cheaper/eco-friendly alternatives), AI-powered weekly meal planning (Pro), natural language queries, intelligent product categorization, weekly AI report generation, and anomaly detection. All AI features are grouped under the dedicated 'AI Features' section in the sidebar and respond in your preferred language.
How do health recommendations work?
Our AI analyzes your recent 90 days of shopping data — what you buy, how often, and in which categories — then generates personalized, actionable health and nutrition tips. Recommendations are refreshed automatically when you upload new receipts, and they're always based on your actual shopping patterns, not generic advice.
Can I ask questions about my spending?
Yes! The natural language query feature lets you ask questions in plain English or German, like 'How much did I spend on dairy last month?' or 'What are my most purchased products?' — and you'll get an instant, data-driven answer powered by AI.
Do AI features cost extra?
Basic AI features like product categorization and natural language queries are available to all users. Advanced AI features — including anomaly detection, basket analysis, nutrition tracking, and weekly AI reports — are exclusive to Pro subscribers (€3.99/month). Pro includes a 14-day free trial so you can try everything risk-free.
In which languages does the AI respond?
The AI automatically responds in your browser's language — currently German and English are fully supported. Just switch the app language and all AI recommendations, queries, and insights will adapt automatically.
What are Recipe Suggestions?
The AI analyzes your recent purchases and suggests recipes using ingredients you already buy. You get personalized recipe ideas that match your shopping habits — helping reduce food waste and add variety to your meals.
What are Product Substitutions?
The AI suggests healthier, cheaper, or more eco-friendly alternatives to products you regularly buy. Recommendations are based on your actual shopping patterns and help you make better choices without drastically changing your habits.
What is the Meal Plan feature?
Meal Plan is a Pro feature that generates a personalized weekly meal plan tailored to your shopping habits. The AI considers what you typically buy to create realistic plans — with breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snack suggestions for each day of the week.
Where do I find AI features in the app?
All AI features are grouped under the dedicated 'AI Features' section in the sidebar (desktop) or the 'More' menu (mobile). Look for the sparkle badge next to AI items and the crown icon for Pro-only features like Meal Plan.

Account & Security

Is my data secure?
Absolutely. Your data is protected by industry-standard encryption, secure JWT authentication, and complete tenant isolation — meaning no one else can ever access your data. Receipts and purchases are stored securely in the cloud and are only accessible to you.
Can I use biometric login?
Yes! KassenBonBon supports WebAuthn biometric authentication — you can log in with your fingerprint, Face ID, or Windows Hello for a seamless and extra-secure experience.
Can I delete my account and data?
Yes, you can delete your account in the settings page. We comply with GDPR regulations and offer data export before deletion so you don't lose your shopping history.
Is my data shared with third parties?
No. Your shopping data is never shared with or sold to third parties. AI features process your data on secure servers to generate recommendations, but your personal purchase data is never used to train AI models or shared externally.

Pricing & Subscription

What plans are available?
KassenBonBon offers two plans: Free and Pro. The Free plan includes 30 uploads/month, basic analytics, 5 AI queries/day, and 12 months of receipt storage. Pro (€3.99/month or €39/year) unlocks unlimited everything — uploads, AI queries, retention, advanced analytics, nutrition tracking, anomaly detection, basket analysis, weekly AI reports, and ad-free experience.
How does the 14-day free trial work?
When you upgrade to Pro, you get a full 14-day free trial with access to all Pro features. You won't be charged until the trial ends. You can cancel anytime during the trial and you'll never be charged.
How do I upgrade to Pro?
Go to Settings → Subscription and click 'Upgrade to Pro', or visit the Pricing page. You'll be redirected to a secure Stripe checkout. We accept all major credit and debit cards.
Can I cancel my subscription?
Yes, anytime! Go to Settings → Subscription and click 'Cancel Subscription'. Your Pro access continues until the end of your current billing period. You can also reactivate before the period ends if you change your mind.
What happens when I cancel Pro?
Your account reverts to the Free plan at the end of your billing period. All your data is preserved — you'll just be subject to Free tier limits (30 uploads/month, 5 AI queries/day). You can re-subscribe anytime to regain Pro access.
Is there a yearly discount?
Yes! The yearly plan costs €39/year — that's €3.25/month, saving you over 18% compared to the monthly plan at €3.99/month.

Which languages are supported?
KassenBonBon is fully available in English and German. All pages, analytics, AI recommendations, and error messages are translated. You can switch languages at any time using the language toggle.
Does KassenBonBon work on mobile?
Yes! KassenBonBon is a Progressive Web App (PWA) that works beautifully on all devices — desktop, tablet, and smartphone. You can even install it on your phone's home screen for a native app-like experience.
How many receipts can I upload?
Free users can upload up to 30 receipts per month — plenty for weekly grocery shopping. Pro users enjoy unlimited uploads with no restrictions. The more data you add, the more powerful your analytics and AI recommendations become.
What retailers are planned for the future?
We're continuously expanding retailer support. Currently REWE, Lidl, Aldi, EDEKA, and Kaufland are fully supported, with more German and European retailers planned. Our generic parser also handles most unknown receipt formats.
